American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Creating the metaverse for engineering design skills

ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world. HyperSkill enables the ASME team to build virtual competitions that challenge and inspire the next generation of engineers to solve pressing problems facing society. Virtualizing the contests dramatically expands the scale and scope of the impact that ASME can have on global youth while reducing cost and increasing engagement.

Overview of Simulations created by ASME

Car racing challenge

The objective of this competition is to design a car body and program the driving logic to win the race on a race track. They need to exercise logic based behavior designed inside of HyperSkills block coding system of behavior design to accomplish this navigation on the track. Students are judged based on their speed, how many collisions occur, and how many laps the vehicle is able to achieve within the time limit.

Lunar lander challenge

The objective of this competition is to design a lander body and a navigation system where you can place a lander in the environment and have it navigate to a target destination unknown to the developer. They need to exercise logic based behavior designed inside of HyperSkills block coding system of behavior design to accomplish this behavior. Students are judged based on their accuracy, speed, and efficiency in their navigation.
