Irvine, California, April 6 2023: SimInsights is excited to announce that our HyperSkill paper abstract titled General Purpose Software for XR and AI-Powered Skills Training & Assessment has been accepted by I/ITSEC 2023 Conference Committee, per communication below:

Congratulations! On behalf of the I/ITSEC 2023 Conference Committee, it is my pleasure to confirm the acceptance of your abstract (ID 23462 – General Purpose Software for XR and AI-Powered Skills Training & Assessment). Out of approximately 385 submissions, yours survived a rigorous review by your peers and has been accepted for development into a paper.

Title: General Purpose Software for XR and AI-Powered Skills Training & Assessment

Abstract:

XR and AI technologies have developed rapidly on both research and commercialization fronts in recent years, as seen from the availability of numerous VR/AR devices and API’s for high-accuracy deep learning models for text, audio and image inputs. Together, these technologies offer the potential to significantly advance both the stimulus and response aspects of training and deliver improved quality, reduced cost and greater scale. However, critical barriers remain. One of the barriers is the multidisciplinary skills required (coding, AI/ML) for integrating these technologies to serve a training project.

We argue that easy to use, powerful and affordable no-code tools are an important step toward unlocking the benefits of immersive and AI technologies for training. Citing data from successful government, medical, manufacturing and education projects and with evident relevance to training challenges in cybersecurity, law enforcement, homeland security and transportation, we demonstrate the value of no-code tools using both economic (return on investment (ROI), time to value) and functional (engagement, learning, retention and transfer) metrics. We briefly review the scientific basis via grounded cognition, neuroscience and learning science literature and then, based on our experience building a popular enterprise grade no-code software tool that is enabling non-programmer users to create rich immersive 3D AI-powered content, present a breakdown of the key features that are essential for a general purpose software (no-code authoring, one click publishing with cross platform optimization, reusable templates, analytics, multiplayer, built-in asset repository, collaboration). We also outline a high level system architecture, a blueprint for organizational partnerships and community formation. Finally, we present seven applications spanning diverse learning objectives from varied domains to present preliminary evidence that it is possible to build a general purpose networked platform that can support user generated content and marketplaces and bring people together through lifelong learning.

About I/ITSEC

The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) is the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training event. Held near the beginning of December in Orlando, Florida, USA, I/ITSEC consists of peer-reviewed paper presentations, tutorials, special events, professional workshops, a commercial exhibit hall, a serious games competition, and STEM events for teachers and secondary students. I/ITSEC is organized and sponsored by the National Training & Simulation Association (NTSA), which promotes international and interdisciplinary cooperation within the fields of modeling and simulation (M&S), training, education, analysis, and related disciplines at this annual meeting. The NTSA is an affiliate subsidiary of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). Hence, I/ITSEC also emphasizes themes related to defense and security.
